How Social Media Feeds your Insecurities

Updated: Jul 6, 2022

Social media is everywhere. It’s become a necessity that most people thrive off. It serves as communication, inspiration, and motivation for most. However, it’s also become the source of insecurities, negative self-esteem, and self-deprecation for a big amount of its users.

“A Huffington Post poll found that 60 percent of people using social media reported that it has impacted their self-esteem in a negative way. They also found that 51 percent say social media has made them feel more self-conscious about their appearance.” This says a lot regarding how much social media has changed people’s outlook on themselves.

When in reality, there’s likely a ton of photoshop, filtering, and editing that’s gone into these “perfect” people’s pictures that we see everyday. Even if there have been some influencers trying to spread awareness regarding this topic, we can’t emphasize enough how important it is to know that social media isn’t reality and most of it is superficial. One shouldn’t let it reach a point where social media encourages you to deprive yourself of the things you love to achieve a certain body, appearance, or lifestyle. We should all remember to take a break and get off our devices to realize that once in a while.

GenDigital Says:

Don’t be too consumed by the distorted reality of social media. No one’s perfect and flawless 24/7. That’s only what they want you to think. But behind the screen, they’re all normal people, just like you.
