2 months ago (December 2021), Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg introduced the rebranding of their company towards futuristic ideas and reality which is called ‘metaverse’. This term is actually not a new thing as it has actually been mentioned years ago (in 1992) by Neal Stephenson in his novel, Snow Crash.
In the novel, it was mentioned that the ‘metaverse’ is a virtual 3D world where it’s inhabited by avatars of real-life humans. This term then today has been upgraded to a virtual environment that you can step in, not only through the screen. It’s a virtual, interconnected community where people can work, meet and play together using VR headsets, AR glasses, smartphones or other gadgets.
With the existence of metaverse, you’ll be able to attend online concerts, travel online, sightsee or create your own digital art, and even trying on digital clothes. Metaverse has also become a game-changer for work from home jobs and classes. Instead of meeting through zoom, students and workers alike can meet together in a room/ virtual office.
This metaverse is not only exclusive to Facebook. Other big companies such as Roblox, Samsung, Gucci and many more have started to make a move in this whole new virtual world. It is believed that this virtual world will become the very first step towards a more comprehensive and inclusive digital world. Now, the question is, are you ready?
