9 Million Digital Talents in 9 Years

Indonesia has huge potential to play bigger roles on the international stage. This is truly possible as Indonesia has the 4th most population in the world. However, with the current rate and quality of human resources, it might still be a struggle for Indonesia to reach a higher level. This is why at the last State Palace’s limited meeting with Microsoft and at the annual Google for Indonesia event (Google4ID), Indonesia’s president, Joko Widodo stressed this important factor.

Jokowi said that Indonesia still needs lots of training to develop the quality of its human resources in the information technology sector. In addition to that, according to him, Indonesia also still needs to increase the digital literacy overall in the younger generation so that they could operate and use the internet more properly and safely.

This is crucial in order to reach the ultimate goal of Indonesia: having 9 million digital talents in 9 years or by 2035 and enhancing the productivity of digital activities in Indonesia. Of course, this can’t be achieved easily. The government needs to collaborate with universities and private parties. Digital infrastructure also is crucial and needs to be broadened as well. And most importantly, the younger generation needs to have an awareness of these digital needs and work hand-by-hand so that Indonesia can ‘level up’ to the international stage.
