WVI Nusa Tenggara Timur
This next WVI collab consists of four 90-minute sessions with over 120 students from Forum Anak Nusa Tenggara Timur, sharing knowledge about digital literacy, etiquette, security, and safety.
In order to achieve the fundamental goal of supplying underprivileged children with digital literacy skills, GenDigital Academy worked with Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) to teach children in East Nusa Tenggara about digitalization. This collaboration reflects our strong passion for raising a generation of digital learners. Children in East Nusa Tenggara are eager to learn more about the digital world, and WVI and GenDigital want to help them do so while also teaching them how to use it securely and raise their awareness of numerous critical issues.
The collaboration was held once every two weeks for 60-90 minutes, and taught up to 20 kids in an event called “Generasi Digital Masa Kini.” The topics covered ranged from a large variety, but all of which correlates to digital literacy and digitalization. In this collaboration, we, along with Wahana Visi Indonesia selected various relevant topics that could easily be grasped by the children, and would benefit them in various ways in their future. One of the most significant topics we taught was digital security and digital etiquette. We’ve covered this topic various times in many other collaborations, as we believe that it is crucial to know and be aware of.
Specifically, we taught the children about passwords and digital identity, as well as etiquette in social media: the DOs and DONTs in the digital world, digital footprint, how to pick username in social media, and plagiarism. Other topics we covered include digital safety, which in turn covers hoax, chatting with strangers, how to protect yourself on the internet, online scamming, and FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). Of course, as GenDigital is all about digital literacy, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to emphasize on this topic, as well! This includes (but not limited to); jobs that are likely to be replaced by technology, importance of digital literacy, and how to evaluate credible sources.
The event went incredibly, with a lot of participants from the children who were very enthusiastic to learn about the topics we taught.
