Bimbel Weekly Sessions
Teaching a group of 30 kids per batch, split between beginner and advanced classes about the fundamentals of programming using tools such as Scratch, robotics, and Virtual Reality.
GenDigital Academy is not only a place to provide but also a home to those that have a large interest in digital literacy. This is the reason why bimbel weekly sessions become an ingrained part of our organization ever since.
Every Saturday morning at exactly 8.30, our bimbel weekly sessions start off with a banger icebreaker. Although we are teachers, we want to not only teach but also become friends with the children. We are just their guide in digital literacy to provide them with a brighter future ahead. Hence, these icebreakers start off our sessions with an activity that the children are sure to enjoy! This could be a simple ‘Simon Says’ game or ‘Follow the Leader’ type of action. This encourages many of the children to be proactive in our lessons.
After they feel comfortable with their learning environment, we started on what topics we will discuss. We always are the initiative in discussing with them as equals and not someone who is arrogant and feels like they know better. We discuss with them as colleagues, someone who works together to achieve something in mind whether the topic is about coding, logical thinking, virtual reality, or other digital literacy-related topics.
As guides, we are their path, and we will always look to what’s best for the children while also having this bond with them as students and teachers, ultimately helping them achieve and become more digital literate people.
