GenD x YSBM

From September to October 2024, GenDigital collaborated with Yayasan Saluran Berkat Mandiri (YSBM) to teach underprivileged children living in the slum areas of West Jakarta.

From September to October 2024, GenDigital collaborated with Yayasan Saluran Berkat Mandiri (YSBM) to teach underprivileged children living in the slum areas of West Jakarta. Because of their living conditions, these children have little to no exposure to technology. The lack of knowledge regarding digital literacy and technology limits the opportunities they can have in the future. GenDigital’s mission was to set the children up for brighter futures by introducing them to today’s modern technology, and equipping them with vital digital skills.

Held every two weeks, the teaching sessions held at YSBM covered various compelling topics. For the first topic, the children were introduced to computers. This included the definition of a computer and what the functions of it are.

Then, they were taught about the difference between hardware and software. The children got to observe the different physical parts of a computer up close. For software, the children explored different softwares such as a digital calculator, games, etc.

Lastly, the children learned how to type on a keyboard. Our mentors first explained the proper position for typing. Then, the children got to practice their typing skills on a keyboard. While practicing, they played the TypeRacer game to increase their typing speed.

Our team is very grateful to have the opportunity to teach the children at YSBM to technology, such a crucial aspect of today’s life and their future world. The interest and enthusiasm from the children will always be cherished. Hopefully through the knowledge GenDigital has shared, the children are able to navigate a brighter future.
