GenD Collaboration

ASEAN Youth Symposium

In September 2023 Gen Digital Academy attended the ASEAN Youth Symposium, covering a wide range of 5 topics, namely health, digital literacy and inclusion, future education and work, food security, and green economy. Our very own founder and co-founder from GenD, Flavia Gabriella and Jove Pendapotan, presented, to a stadium full of people, GenD’s goal; raising a generation of digital learners. After signing the Memorandum of Understanding Agreement as well in the summit. GenD focuses on bridging the digital divide in the Asean Community, one of the 5 pillars of AYS.

ASEAN has given GenD the opportunity to go international, now bringing digital literacy to the underprivileged communities outside of Indonesia. As a collaboration with Global Shapers (and the help of Circular Digital Lab Cambodia), GenD recently introduced their cause to the mentors in Phnom Penh covering a range of topics like protecting personal information online, the creation of safe passwords, and even learning to use Canva, a popular website solely for designing media.

With over 40 mentors and more than 250 students (aged 12-17 years old), we can’t wait to see what GenD has more to offer within this collaboration, exploring just how far GenDigital can go in impacting those who need it.

SIDOMUNCUL

In October 2023, GenDigital agreed to collaborate with Sidomuncul, a well known traditional herbal medicine and pharmaceutical company. The goal of this collaboration? To promote digital awareness in 3 different programs in 3 different places, namely, Mbok Jajan, Karang Taruna Dharma Remaja, and Petani Muda Kridoyuwono.

Starting off strong with the first trip, on 21st November GenD took a trip all the way to Semarang, Mbok to introduce the local sellers (aged 30-50) on modern technology and other tips and tricks to help grow their business. The members of GenD, with facilities provided by the help of Sidomuncul, first introduced the local vendors on Digital Literacy, teaching the fundamental aspects of being online such as etiquette, digital privacy, and even website domains. Afterwards, GenD covered a range of topics specifically to help the retailers grow their businesses like how to ‘hack’ the algorithm in Google Analytics, covering Search Engine Optimization, gaining a better and more active presence online, and even things like video editing to further drive other’s interest in their business.

On 4th November, 2023, GenD went to Karang Taruna Dharma Remaja, this time hitting a target audience of a group of people who aimed to improve the economy and sustain the preservation of Indonesia’s resources as a whole. In this program, GenD taught more distinct topics related to promotion of their own businesses online. The topics covered in this program are promotion through the art of videos in YouTube, managing several social media accounts, and building a website that can pique people’s interest at a glance. These topics include the importance of engaging with the audience, ensuring a wider range of customers for them all.

Finally, the last program that GenD did for this collaboration was held at Petani Muda Kridoyuwono, with GenD teaching to an audience of farmers in Kridoyuwono.

GenD x ISCO

GenD spent 2 whole weeks teaching children (grades 9-11) at ISCO Foundation about being good and well informed audiences and creators on the surface of online technology. Through this collaboration, GenD hopes to ensure that these young adults get to carry this knowledge with them as they grow to do outstanding things or even as they graduate to university and schools alike.

Early August marked the beginning of the first week of the ISCO collaboration, starting off on teaching the students how to create their own ID Cards using the application Canva. The students learned to use their own pictures and descriptions of themselves to include in the ID Cards, simultaneously learning different aspects of Canva like how to add and edit text, including images in a specific format, and even learning to personalize the templates given by Canva.

As for the second week, GenD mainly focused on the topic of making life easier (and more organized) by using the Google Sheets application to create a to-do list. The students learned how to utilize the smart chips features and dropdown format for each column of the sheet. The students also learned how to use different formulas to their advantage, making the usage of Google Sheets much simpler to use as a whole. Additionally, the students there learned to create their own Curriculum Vitaes (CVs), starting off by creating CVs of other celebrities beforehand. Then they created CVs of their own, a skill that can be carried on as they go and get a job in the future.

With that, GenD hopes that the students at the ISCO foundation learned something useful throughout these sessions, skills that they can use whenever they need to do so in the future of their lives.

GenD x Rumah Faye

Early in 2023, GenD collaborated with Rumah Faye, a non-profit organization that focuses on child protection and provides a safe haven for victims of trafficking. As they rescue Indonesian children from exploitation and abuse, Rumah Faye also realizes the recovery needs for these young children which includes education. Therefore, through this collaboration, GenD had the honor of educating them about digital literacy.

GenD x Rumah Faye consisted of 12 weekly teaching sessions every Saturday morning, from 28 January to 15 April. The program was done online and we covered a wide range of topics from digital safety, content creation, to Google Workspace. We not only taught lessons through presentations, but also engaged the children in interactive games and productive activities. Overall, it was a pleasure to be able to equip these children with invaluable knowledge to help them navigate safely through the digital world.

GenD x IMFI

The program was held online and around 300 schools from across Indonesia were connected in a Zoom meeting for our training session. Through this event, we broke the MURI (Museum Rekor Dunia Indonesia) record for digital literacy training with the most number of students taught simultaneously in Indonesia.

In celebration of Indonesia’s 77th year of independence, GenD and Indomobil Finance (IMFI) partnered up to hold a digital literacy education program on August 17, 2022. With the theme of independence, IMFI held this CSR program in hopes of liberating the next generation from lack of digital literacy and joined forces with GenD, giving us the opportunity to deliver a 90-minute teaching session to over 4000 elementary school students from 208 cities in Indonesia.

We covered 3 main topics: digital safety, digital etiquette and digital safety. Everyone had a lot of fun and the students also had a chance to create independence-themed poems which was a great way to end the session. All in all, holding this record-breaking program was an incredible honor and we hope that we can inspire continuous digital learning for our nation’s younger generation.

A collaboration that aims to enrich the next generation’s youths with content creation skills in various social media platforms. On the 1st of October 2022, we partnered with TINLIT, an online platform for writers and literature lovers from all around Indonesia. Creating a social media platform designed to express your creativity can be daunting; so, GDA hosted a virtual session teaching participants how to build a platform on TikTok, Instagram, and Youtube.

Tinlit

A part of GDA’s Hour of Code event, sharing knowledge about introductory coding and programming language to the children of Salatiga. Taking place on the 3rd of July 2022, this collaboration with Panti Asuhan Salib Putih marks our first in-person HOC. Through a block-based visual programming language called Scratch and other group activities, we introduced basic coding to the young and curious minds of the Salatiga orphanage.

HOC Salatiga

A collaboration with Street Smart Society dedicated to help students overcome the challenge of constructing a good CV. GenDigital hosted a webinar of three biweekly sessions titled ‘Program 3K: Keuangan, Karir, & Kewirausahaan’ to share important tips so participants can craft an effective CV. The webinar focuses on CV structure, formatting, and utilizing Google Sheets, Docs, and Forms as tools.

Streat Smart Society(SSS)

Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) is an organization that aims to give support to children from all across Indonesia. This collaboration with WVI focuses on supplying the needs of the rural areas of Nusa Tenggara Timur with fundamental digital literacy skills by sharing knowledge about maintaining safety, security, and etiquette in the online world. The partnership is composed of four 90-minute sessions with over 120 students from Forum Anak Nusa Tenggara Timur, during which we covered topics such as

From March to July 2021, GenDigital Academy collaborated with Tokopedia Academy to create accessible video courses introducing viewers to the basics of coding and its applications. Unlike previous collaborations, this one is targeted towards older audiences with an interest in coding and are seeking to find a beginner-friendly learning resource. The course consists of a total of 5 videos, which features topics such as: Data Types + Data Structure + Operators, Conditional Statements + Loops, I/O Statements + Variables, Application of Coding. To keep it accessible for all, the videos can be found on GDA’s youtube and Tokopedia Academy's official website.
